"An automatic Seiko 5 Sports model. This funky looking and very distinctive model. The term ""Sushi Roll"" may not be an official Seiko designation, but it has been enthusiastically adopted by watch collectors to capture the distinct hour markers adorning these iconic vintage Seiko 5 models Sushi lovers and Seiko aficionados have christened certain vintage Seiko 5 models with a delectable moniker - the ""Sushi Roll."" This playful nickname refers to the captivating hour markers on these watches, which resemble delectable sushi rolls. Hailing predominantly from the 1960s and 70s, these Seiko 5 timepieces are renowned for their distinctive, non-traditional designs, with the ""maki-esque"" hour indicators being the star of the show. While not an official designation from Seiko or GQ, this sushi-inspired nickname perfectly encapsulates the whimsical spirit of these horological delights.

The watch is powered by the automatic caliber 6119. In the late 1960’s, one of the most successful Seiko movements was launched; Caliber 6119. Over the years, it evolved in three versions, with 6119A being the oldest. Caliber 6119A can easily be identified by the two screws, which hold the rotor. The later calibers 6119B and 6119C hold the rotor only with a thick center screw.

As all Seiko movements, this one is constructed for reliability and durability. Its Diashock shock protection guarantees enough resistance against shocks, and its ball-bearing rotor proving a reliable and  power and even works after more than twenty years without service as smooth as on the first day.

The 21 jewel movement features a day date function. The weekday (only available in one language) can be advanced by setting the time back and  forth between 9pm and 3am, and the day indication can be advanced by pressing the crown to “quick set”. The crown has got only two positions; the first position on this model allows for the internal 60 minute counter bezel to be set, but also meaning that the watch cannot be hand wound.

The watch is in excellent condition.  The case appears to be unpolished and is in excellent shape. The dial is a fabulous and radiant orange with these fun hour markers that make this watch.  The original hands are present. There is a little wear around where the lume is painted in, but nothing that is too visible to the eye. The watch is keeping great time.

The watch is fitted to a handsome black cordovan thick black leather sports band. If you are looking for one of Seiko’s most out there dials, then look no further! "
